I hope you had a great summer and are getting ready to return to school, or if you have, I hope it is going well. I am getting ready for the September meeting and I wanted to send out an email looking for some interest in being on the Leadership Team. Last years team did a great job of setting up a program for the year that gave you great speakers, events and field trips and this year we do not have any events planned yet. I hope this email will bring out some candidates that want to help lead their fellow students for the year. If you are interested, know someone that is, or want more information, please contact me so that we can make a plan for the September meeting.
Thank you.

News
Thank you students for coming to our last American Culinary Federation Las Vegas Student Chapter meeting for this 08-09 year. It was a great turnout and a great seminar from Michael Stamm of Michael's Gourmet Pantry. He brought an array of specialty salts for us to taste and fed us much information on mushrooms and olive oil scams. If any of you would like him to come out to your school he also does seminars on cheeses and truffles. Just shoot him an email with that business card he left you or click here for his website.
With that said, the ACFLV Student Chapter is looking for students to step up and be a part of the Leadership Team for 2009-2010. If you like to organize social gatherings, tours of food related facilities or bring in experts to talk about the culinary industry you should contact us.
A big congratulations to our newest high school ACFLV Junior members. Four students from Silverado High School placed first in the state and fifth overall in the National Pro Start competition held in San Diego in April. They were required to make a three course meal for four in an hour using only two burners. It is quite a feat and they did not disappoint. In fact their dessert took first in the nation. Our chapter sponsored them with free ACF memberships to our local chapter. To learn more about them click here. To learn more about Pro Start and see their dishes click here.
